1-2.) Feudo Maccari, ReNoto, Sicily, Italy, 2006, $16.99 The palate has vivid, sweet fruit with a savory, subtly chalky edge.
It's very ripe with a hint of lush fruit, there's good balance here and
a bit of restraint. Finishes with spicy Nero d'Avola notes with some
jammy Syrah structure. Try this with vegetable lasagna, you won't be
disappointed.
El Castro de Valtuille, Bierzo, Spain, 2006, $12.99 The color is a deep red with some hints of violet. A juicy balanced red
wine, with alluring aromas of wild berry and wet stone that carry
through on the palate. Has intensity, yet remains graceful, with spicy
and floral accents to the lively fruit. 92 Points Wine Spectator

3-4.) Monte Antico, Toscana, Italy, 2004, $12.99 The wine has a lovely plum and berry character, with loads of ripe fruit. It
is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. A lovely blend
of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink this super Tuscan
with a hearty roast and garlic potatoes.
Santa Carolina, Carmenere, Reserva, Chile, 2007, $13.99 This Carménère Reserva has an intense and deep red color. It features
exuberant fruity aromas with floral hints of violets and soft spicy
notes. On the palate, this elegant and full-bodied wine is highly
concentrated and complex, with a firm structure, fine tannins and a
long and tasting finish. This wine is meant for a grilled T-Bone. Best Buy Wine Enthusiast

5-6.) Tortoise Creek, Pinot Noir, Languedoc, France, 2007, $12.99 Soft, well-balanced and jammy. It is loaded with bright cherry fruit
characteristics and finishes smooth. Enjoy with filet mignon, red sauce
pasta dishes, rack of lamb or firm cheeses.
Castano, Solanera, Yelca, Spain, 2003, $14.99 Another
dark red, almost purple colored wine with an intriguing nose of spice
and dark red fruit. On the palate, there are lush fruit flavors with
some clove/cinnamon notes. A smooth, easy drinking wine that would make
an excellent Match with BBQ short ribs. 92 Points Robert Parker

| Featured White Wines: |
7-8.) Razor's Edge, Chardonnay, Un-Oaked, Australia, 2006, $14.99 The Chardonnay offers distinctive varietal fruit characters of citrus,
passion fruit, and white peach. Lively, generous and focused, with
peach and melon flavors galore. This is a well-balanced wine with hints
of lime and spice. It matches real well with baked red snapper.
Santa Ana, Torrontes, Mendoza, Argentina, 2006, $9.99 Torrontes is one of the most popular grape varieties used in the
production of Argentinean white wine. This Torrontes wine has very
typical and elegant aromas of white flowers and roses on the nose
layered with citrus notes, and crispy and smooth on the palate. The
wine pairs well with seafood and mild to spicy cuisine |
9-10.) Domaine Chene, Bourgogne Aligote, France, 2007, $13.99 This old Burgundian grape has history as being the other white
burgundy. The colors are gold and green leading to a nose of complex
aromas of ripe grapes. The crisp acidity of this wine makes it perfect
for kir, but will stand up well with mimmonette or other chesses.
Veuve du Vernay, Brut, Rose, France, $12.99 This is a fabulous sparkling wine. It is truly comparable to champagne
but, because it is not produced in the Champagne region it cannot be
called such, yet it is made literally across the road. Try it, you will
be pleasantly surprised. A great sipper for New Years Eve!
|
11-12.) King Estate, Pinot Gris, Oregon, 2007, $17.99 The color is a golden straw with brilliant highlights. The aromas of
ripe peach, sweet grapefruit, orange blossom, and tropical fruit lead
to flavors of lively citrus/tropical fruit, kiwi, pear, balanced acid
with nice texture. We had this with chicken cordon bleu and it was
great.
Aresan, Airen, Vino Tierra Castilla, Spain, 2005, $16.99 The
color is a clear, bright, yellow-straw that precedes flowery aromas of
intense pineapple and green apple. The palate is well structured, with
body and class balancing the wine's acidity and freshness, ending with
a long, persistent finish.
