Our May Wine of the Month is the 2021 Domaine des Tourelles.
Based in the Bekaa Valley and founded in 1868, Domaine des Tourelles is one of Lebanon’s oldest wineries. It is still a benchmark for traditional, low-intervention winemaking.
Red wines of this region are typically a blend of Bordeaux and Rhone Valley varieties. Many of these wines have the structure to age for many years but also the bright fruit character that is easy to drink young.
This 2021 is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, and 5% Carignan. The fruit in this wine was hand harvested and then fermented and aged in concrete vats using indigenous yeasts.
Aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, and morello cherries mix with cloves and pepper.
The palate is medium to full-bodied with notes of plums and blackberries. Silky tannins and balanced acidity balanced the fruit and savory qualities.
Food pairing ideas:
– Lamb
– Grilled meats or kababs
– Spiced dishes
– Hearty vegetarian stews
Regularly $28.99, for the month of May it will be $17.99.
We hope you enjoy this wine from Lebanon!
